Best Budget Direct Drive Wheelbase (UK)

Manufacturer specifications checked · UK buying advice

MOZA R3 Racing Bundle (PC & XBOX), manufacturer product photograph

Quick answer

Xbox on a budget: the MOZA R3 bundle (3.9 Nm, Xbox-licensed ESX wheel and pedals included). PC-only and want everything in one box: the MOZA R5 Pro bundle (6 Nm). PC and more torque from a base alone: the MOZA R9 V3 (9 Nm) or SIMAGIC Alpha EVO Sport (9 Nm). Building a Fanatec setup or playing on Xbox with a Fanatec wheel: the CSL DD (5 Nm, 8 Nm with Boost Kit 180). None of these is a PlayStation base.

Compare the whole setup, not the base

Only the two MOZA bundles arrive ready to drive. The R9 V3, CSL DD and Alpha EVO Sport are wheelbases: add a steering wheel, pedals and a mount before comparing prices, because the cheapest base can become the dearest setup.

Console first

On MOZA and Fanatec, Xbox support comes from a licensed steering wheel on a supported base. Fanatec states the CSL DD is not compatible with any PlayStation console. SIMAGIC's Alpha EVO is a PC wheelbase. For PlayStation, look at the Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro instead.

How much torque is enough?

These are the makers' published peak figures, not our test results. More torque gives headroom for kerbs and impacts at lower settings; 3.9–6 Nm suits a sturdy desk, while 9 Nm bases reward a rigid mount. See our direct drive torque guide for detail.

Desk or cockpit

MOZA lists its Table Clamp for R3, R5, R9 and R12 bases on desks up to 50 mm thick, and the CSL DD has its own Fanatec table clamp. The Alpha EVO series has no front mounting holes and is fitted with SIMAGIC side or front mount brackets, so plan a cockpit for it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest direct drive wheel for Xbox?

Among the bases in this guide, the MOZA R3 bundle: it includes the Xbox-licensed ESX wheel and SR-P Lite pedals. Check the current price above.

Is the SIMAGIC Alpha EVO Sport good for beginners?

It is a 9 Nm PC wheelbase sold without a wheel, pedals or mount, so it suits a buyer ready to build a PC setup on a cockpit rather than a first desk setup.

Does any budget direct drive base work on PS5?

None in this guide. The Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro is the PlayStation-licensed option.
