MOZA R5 Pro Bundle vs Fanatec CSL DD

Manufacturer specifications checked · UK buying advice

Quick answer

Choose the MOZA R5 Pro bundle if you race on PC: one box gives you a 6Nm base, the ES Lite wheel, SR-P Lite2 pedals and a desk clamp. Choose the Fanatec CSL DD if you want Xbox play with a licensed Fanatec wheel, or a base you build up part by part: 5Nm standard, 8Nm with the Boost Kit 180. Neither one is a PlayStation base — the Gran Turismo DD Pro is Fanatec's PlayStation route.

One box, or a parts list

The R5 Pro bundle is a complete PC setup in one carton: R5 Pro wheelbase, ES Lite steering wheel with 22 programmable inputs, SR-P Lite2 pedals, desk clamp, power adapter, cable, toolkit and manual. The CSL DD arrives as a wheelbase. To drive with it you also need a Fanatec steering wheel, a pedal set and — if you are not using a cockpit — a table clamp. Add those parts to the basket before comparing prices, because the cheaper base can become the dearer setup.

6 Nm against 5 Nm (8 Nm)

Both are direct drive, so there are no belts or gears softening the detail. MOZA rates the R5 Pro at 6 Nm peak with a 21-bit magnetic encoder and a 100 W peak supply. Fanatec rates the CSL DD at 5 Nm from the standard 90 W supply, and 8 Nm once the Boost Kit 180 replaces it; the 8 Nm version of the base ships with the Boost Kit already in the box. On paper the 8 Nm CSL DD has more headroom, but you pay for the wheel and pedals on top.

Console check before you buy

Fanatec states that the CSL DD becomes Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S compatible when used with any Fanatec Xbox-licensed steering wheel, and that it is not compatible with any PlayStation console and cannot be upgraded to achieve that. The R5 Pro bundle we sell is a PC product. If PlayStation is the target, look at the Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro instead of forcing one of these two.

Desk or cockpit

The R5 Pro bundle includes a desk clamp, so it can be on a solid desk from day one; MOZA lists its table clamp for R3, R5, R9 and R12 bases on desktops up to 50 mm thick. The CSL DD needs the separate Fanatec CSL DD Table Clamp, which grips desktops from 5 to 60 mm and holds the base at a fixed 15-degree angle. At these torque figures a sturdy desk is workable; a rigid cockpit becomes worthwhile when you move to stronger bases or load cell pedals.

Verdict

PC-only racer who wants everything in one order: the MOZA R5 Pro bundle. Xbox player, or a driver who wants to choose the wheel and pedals separately and climb through the Fanatec range: the CSL DD, ideally the 8 Nm version so the Boost Kit is already included.

Frequently asked questions

Does the MOZA R5 Pro bundle work on Xbox?

No. The bundle we sell is a PC product and its ES Lite wheel is not Xbox-licensed. On MOZA, Xbox operation needs a supported base together with the Xbox-licensed ESX wheel.

Is the Fanatec CSL DD PlayStation compatible?

No. Fanatec states the CSL DD is not compatible with any PlayStation console and cannot be upgraded to achieve compatibility. The Gran Turismo DD Pro is the PlayStation-licensed option in the same family.

Do I need the Boost Kit 180?

Only if you want 8 Nm instead of 5 Nm. It is a 180 W supply that replaces the standard 90 W unit, and the CSL DD detects it and releases the extra strength automatically. The 8 Nm version of the base ships with it included.

What comes in the MOZA R5 Pro bundle box?

The R5 Pro wheelbase, ES Lite steering wheel, SR-P Lite2 pedals, desk clamp, power adapter, cable, toolkit and user manual, per MOZA's own bundle specification.
